Hi, I'm Eric Styles. I'm a UK based film & TV director and have been directing for 30 years.
I love the idea of Previs but have never been able to use it in my prep/workflow. After spending $1000's on software that was so complicated that it would take many hours to create one scene, I was surprised to discover Previs Pro last year. I was just starting prep on a new BBC/Lionsgate TV series. We'd be one of the first UK TV shows to go into production working under the new Covid Protocols.
I knew my time on set would be compromised by new working practices. I needed to be as prepped as possible and wanted to go entirely paperless for the whole production.
Being able to import scripts into Previs Pro was very useful, and I soon got into the software and could create scenes with 19 shots in less than an hour. It's a beautifully intuitive app and proved very accurate. I could build sets and create colour-coded virtual characters that were the exact height of my actors. I could fully explore all shooting options before I went on location, with a very close idea of what lenses I'd be using to shoot the scene. I'm convinced it enabled my shooting to go much faster and smoother, and now the app has 3D props and set/location import, it's going to be even better.
The software gets updated regularly. The Previs Pro team responds really well to filmmakers with feature requests, and they couldn't be more helpful. It's a total no-brainer, and I'd encourage all filmmakers to check it out. You'll love it!
